Humanistic Approach |
Person Centered Therapy (also known as Client Centered or Rogerian)
This optimistic approach to counseling and psychotherapy sees human beings as having the innate tendency to develop towards their full potential. However, this is inevitably blocked or distorted by our life experiences especially when we are told we are only loved or valued if we behave in certain ways and not others or have certain feelings and not others. In these situations, we may allow external conditions (like someone else’s opinion) to determine whether or not we are ok. Since we have a deep need to feel valued, we then tend to distort or deny those experiences that we believe will not be acceptable. My job, as therapist in this approach, aims to provide an environment in which you do not feel under threat or judgment. This enables you to experience and accept more of who you are as a person and reconnect with your own values and sense of self-worth. |
Experiential Therapy |
This type of therapy involves more action, movement and activities rather than traditional talk therapy. When working with this model, you processes the experience physically in session through art, sandtray, guided imagery, and other methods with me providing feedback regarding your actions, behaviors, thoughts and nonverbals. As a result, you have the opportunity to identify feelings, thoughts and behaviors related to the experience and how they show up in your real life. What patterns are you becoming aware of and from where do they stem?

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy |
This model is essentially being fully “aware” of what you are thinking moment by moment, and then learning techniques to evaluate your own thoughts for what they really are-habitual automatic thoughts. Recurring thoughts form well-worn paths or ruts in your brain which makes them hard to get out of. With mindfulness techniques you will begin to learn how to handle your own negative thoughts and be mindful of the reactions that don’t serve you. Self-destructive or negative thought patterns are not helping you, so making shifts in consciousness to alter negativism can be a benefit. After that, you will learn to rewire your brain thought patterns by inserting new thought patterns and beliefs that can and will inspire you to take action and to move forward.
